NCC Supports NASA in Annual Technical Conference

In March 2011 NCC staff once again demonstrated their unwavering dedication to two of the core principles of our company’s vision: (1) to build relationships with industry-leading partners to expand our team capabilities and (2) to provide creative, motive staff members who are committed to meeting our clients’ goals.

Conference and Peer Review Manager Ms. Kim Preiss responded promptly to an event support request from Akoya , a professional servicescompany with whom she had previously partnered. Within one week NCC finalized an agreement to provide on-site and meeting close-out support for the 2011 NASA Fundamental Aeronautics Program (FAP) Technical Conference at the historic Renaissance Cleveland Hotel in Ohio.

The three-day NASA FAP Technical Conference, consisting of plenary sessions, breakout sessions, panel discussions, luncheon and keynote addresses, and networking sessions, is implemented each year to bring together approximately 500 students, government representatives, and international aeronautics professionals for educational outreach and technical presentations.  Ms. Preiss arrived in Cleveland the day before FAP began to ensure all the last minute details were addressed in preparation for seamless event support.  In addition to coordinating with the hotel conference services team and the audiovisual staff during the meeting days, Ms. Preiss also interacted directly with conference attendees by processing on-site registrations, answering questions, and directing traffic.

Ms. Preiss faced several challenges during FAP that required creative solutions. The first was mounting the conference welcome banner in a location that was simultaneously visible to all arriving attendees while also respectful of the hotel’s historic appearance.  In another instance, Ms. Preiss had to act quickly to create signs directing meeting participants to a breakout session room via the makeshift hallway she created with leftover pipe and drape after noticing that access had been restricted when the main plenary session room was divided in half by a moveable wall.  Finally, she coordinated with hotel staff to relocate a breakout session to a different level in order to avoid distraction from the city’s noisy St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

NCC is proud to have Ms. Preiss on our team and to have had the opportunity to demonstrate to NASA staff members the quick thinking, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence that have enabled us to establish enduring relationships with many government agencies.  We look forward to expanding our relationship with both Akoya and NASA in the coming months.

New Contract with the Department of the Treasury

In March 2011 NCC began what we anticipate will be a strong and lasting relationship with another federal agency when we were awarded a five-year contract with the Department of the Treasury’s Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), located in the heart of Washington D.C. NCC will provide audiovisual support services such as system configuration and trouble-shooting, inventory maintenance, equipment set-up and monitoring, and user support for on-site events and daily operations at the OCC’s headquarters, as well as coordination support for the lighting, sound system, backdrop, and all other set-up requests for large-scale, high-profile OCC meetings.

While NCC already has extensive experience supporting mission-critical systems, this contract provides an opportunity to further expand our audiovisual capabilities by adding a face-to-face customer experience with the client. With 40% of the OCC’s approximately 15,000 meetings per year utilizing audiovisual equipment, it was imperative that we assign a dedicated and talented technician who could ensure that all systems run smoothly so that OCC employees and visitors can focus their attention on the content of their meetings. NCC chose industry veteran Eugene Marquis to take on the responsibility of providing daily on-site support at OCC headquarters.

Eugene brings to OCC and the NCC team eleven years of experience as an Events Management A/V Specialist from his previous position with the National Institutes of Health. Whether he was greeting attendees at NIH or setting up presentation slides, installing video conference equipment or assisting users in operating technology to bring down meeting costs, Eugene has demonstrated his ability to provide on-site conference center support. His strong technical skills combined with his commitment to superior customer service will be applied to benefit OCC staff at their headquarters.
