Event Support for 2016 NSF EAPSI Orientation

NSF EAPSI

Pandora White, currently a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Alabama, chose not to spend the summer of 2015 on the beach or relaxing at home.  Instead, she dedicated it to conducting scientific research halfway around the world in Taiwan.  White was one of 200-plus U.S. graduate students awarded fellowships through the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) program.  While in Taiwan, White performed research on a potential therapeutic agent to treat symptoms of diabetes.  She also gained valuable learning experience in the differences and similarities between the American and Taiwanese cultures, and gained a newfound respect for some of the lingual and cultural obstacles international students face when they come here.

White’s eye-opening experience in Taiwan is just one example of many unique summer journeys taken by EAPSI alumni.  For the last four years, NCC has had the privilege of playing a role in the launch of these journeys by providing full meeting support for the EAPSI Pre-Departure Orientation.  On March 29-30, we will support the 2016 EAPSI Orientation in Arlington, VA, as our team of live event associates are tasked with venue selection, travel facilitation, AV support, meeting room coordination and logistics, and creating and maintaining a website exclusively designed for the EAPSI Orientation.

The Pre-Departure Orientation is expected to be attended by more than 200 participants before they embark on their summers abroad in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan.  These deserving graduate students will have the opportunity to conduct research, learn about the culture, language, and science policy in their designated countries before heading back to school in the fall.

As a company with a significant interest in education – having sponsored an USPAACC scholarship and hosting a high school internship through Urban Alliance – we are proud of making communication and collaboration happen® for NSF as it hosts the 2016 EAPSI Pre-Departure Orientation, and we wish the EAPSI Fellows the best of luck this summer.
