NCC Attends AFAC’s Chiefs vs. Chefs Cooking Challenge
On Wednesday, October 17, two NCC employees attended Chiefs vs. Chefs, a live cooking challenge presented by the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). NCC was proud to be a sponsor for the event as part of our loyal support for this worthy organization, and proceeds from the event went to AFAC.
Chiefs vs. Chefs, held at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, featured six of the county’s top restaurateurs taking on six culinarily-inclined Arlington firemen in a three-course showdown. Prior to the challenge, AFAC’s Executive Director Charlie Meng discussed the organization’s mission, and Virginia Congressman Jim Moran spoke about one of his staff members who often participates in AFAC activities.
The competitors were permitted to choose food that is only available at AFAC, which are mostly staples including chicken, eggs, fruits, and vegetables. A crowd of over 100 guests and sponsors witnessed a battle that came down to the final course to determine a winner. The Chefs were ultimately victorious and received AFAC’s prestigious Golden Eggplant Award.
AFAC assists more than 1,400 families per week, giving them a choice of a wide assortment of nutritious food items available at AFAC’s food distribution center. NCC began its partnership with AFAC in April. Since that time, our employees have volunteered at the organization’s food distribution center and served as AFAC ambassadors at the Shirlington Wine and Jazz Festival in August. Earlier this month, NCC team members contributed potato mix, stuffing mix, and canned gravy to AFAC’s “Put the GIVING in Thanksgiving” Food Drive.
NCC looks forward to sponsoring and joining in future AFAC events as the organization continues to serve members of the Arlington community.
