NCC attends and sponsors Chiefs vs. Chefs Cooking Challenge
On Wednesday, October 16, an NCC associate had the privilege of attending the 2nd Annual Chiefs vs. Chefs event at the Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington, hosted by the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). Our company was pleased to continue our longstanding support of AFAC, as we served as a sponsor for the live cooking challenge for the second year in a row. All proceeds from the evening went directly to benefit AFAC. NCC’s associate was chosen to represent the company at the event by virtue of winning our own tasty contest, as her Oreo Chocolate Chip Cookie Blondies were the winning treat in a bakeoff held in our headquarters in September.
Chiefs vs. Chefs featured a team of six star firehouse cooks (members of the Arlington Fire Department) taking on five chefs from some of the finest restaurants in the area, including Bayou Bakery, Fuego, and The Majestic, in a three-course (appetizer, soup/salad, entrée) culinary matchup. To increase the difficulty of the competition, each dish could only be prepared using ingredients found in the AFAC pantry.
The night’s festivities began with AFAC Director Charles Meng speaking to the audience about AFAC’s mission and role in the local community, and Senator Barbara Favola highlighted the importance of AFAC in helping many Arlington families in need. AFAC assists more than 1,400 Arlington families per week, giving them a choice of a wide assortment of nutritious food items available at AFAC’s food distribution center.
More than 200 guests were on hand at the event, which featured delectable dishes like spicy tortilla soup, ravioli with homemade marinara, and chicken cacciatore. For the second straight year, the Chefs emerged as the victors and received AFAC’s esteemed Golden Eggplant Award.
We are honored to support a respected charitable organization like AFAC, as we have done for the last year and a half. We look forward to continuing our monetary and volunteer support, as well as participating in future AFAC events, as we help to create a better experience for Arlington families in need.
