NCC Partners with Urban Alliance for High School Internship Program
NCC is excited to begin what we anticipate will be a long and fruitful partnership with Urban Alliance, an organization dedicated to providing under-resourced high school seniors the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a professional setting through paid internships, formal training, and mentorships. We will sponsor one local-area high school student who will spend time each week at NCC Headquarters, gaining valuable professional experience as part of our team in each of our divisions of service.
Urban Alliance was created in 1996 in Washington, D.C. and previously made its programs available to students in the District, Baltimore, and Chicago. We are proud to be one of 15 businesses in both Arlington and Alexandria to work with interns from October 2013 to August 2014, providing training and mentorship in a business environment.
Our intern will be trained by and work alongside our Multimedia and Production Solutions (MPS), Conference and Peer Review Management Services (CPRM), Audiovisual and Technology Solutions (AVTS), and Executive teams. During the school year, our intern will spend four days a week at NCC working part-time, with one day spent attending life skills and job readiness workshops hosted by Urban Alliance. At the conclusion of the school year, the intern will be with NCC full-time Monday through Thursday, and spend Fridays attending professional development workshops. At the conclusion of the program, the intern will have solidified a plan to attend either college or a job training program, while implementing strategies to identify and sustain future employment.
In addition to our partnership with Urban Alliance, NCC is privileged to support several local non-profit organizations including the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), Hero Dogs Inc., and Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). In June, we sponsored and presented a United States Pan-Asian American Chamber of Commerce (USPAACC) college scholarship to a deserving high school student. Continuing our dedication to education and our community, we look forward to delivering a GOOD future to our intern as he or she gains valuable skills and prepares for a successful college experience and professional career ahead.
