Captioning and Transcription Support for NIEHS Virtual Forum on Autism
Since 2000, the incidence of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has steadily increased; according to the CDC, the prevalence of ASD has gone from 1 in approximately 150 children in 2000 to 1 in 68 currently. During Autism Awareness Month in April, NIH’s National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) hosted a virtual forum on autism spectrum disorders, and NCC was honored to provide captioning and verbatim transcription services for this highly important expert panel discussion.
The panel of six experts, which included health professionals from top U.S. universities and research institutes, spent an hour discussing the links between the environment and incidences of autism, and they also fielded questions through the question box within the forum’s webcast and via Twitter. Shortly after the conclusion of the event, NCC delivered a transcript and closed captioning for the archived webcast, both of which are available on the NIEHS website.
We were pleased to continue our longstanding support of NIH, which began in 2002. Recently we provided multimedia services for events including lectures given by the Dalai Lama and Bill Gates, and a meeting of HHS’ Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability (ACBTSA).
NCC is honored to play a small role in raising awareness for autism while creating a better experience for those who viewed this critical virtual forum and panel discussion. We stand behind NIEHS as it continues to perform extensive and critical autism research.
