NCC Sponsors New Hero Dog “Calvin” Graham
NCC is pleased to announce our sponsorship of new Hero Dog “Calvin” Graham; continuing our dedicated relationship with Hero Dogs, Inc. Calvin is a 4-month-old yellow Labrador retriever, and was named to honor Calvin Leon Graham, the youngest ever U.S. serviceman in World War II at age 12.
Hero Dogs is a Maryland-based 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation founded in 2009, that focuses its efforts on raising, training, and placing service dogs with disabled military veterans, at no cost to the veteran. Each service dog, donated by local breeders, lives with volunteer raisers and is trained to assist veterans with disabilities in sessions conducted by experienced instructors over a rigorous two-year training period.
We launched our partnership with Hero Dogs in March 2012 when President and Founder Jennifer Lund and board member Ilene Glassman brought canine ambassadors Ike and Teddy to our headquarters where they provided an overview of the organization and showed us many of the tasks these specially-trained dogs will be able to perform. Our first sponsored puppy, Ulysses S.“Grant,” joined Hero Dogs in April 2012 and we are all excited as he wraps up his time with his puppy raisers this June.
Our employees look forward to a visit by our Hero Dogs to our offices at the end of May, as we will meet Calvin for the first time and see Grant show off all his new skills before he begins his advanced training at the Hero Dogs’ facility to prepare for placement with his veteran.
As a company that is committed to facilitating and increasing accessibility of communication for the disabled, NCC is proud is continue our strong partnership with Hero Dogs. We look forward to tracking both Calvin and Grant’s progress during their training as they work their way up to living with and assisting deserving veterans.
