NCC Supports 9/11 Observance Ceremonies at the Pentagon
In early September, NCC was privileged to have the opportunity to assist Department of Defense staff by providing project management and vendor coordination in support of the special events held at the Pentagon to mark 10 years since the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Conference and Peer Review Manager Kim Preiss and Audiovisual (AV) Project Manager Kellan Hetrick exemplified the responsiveness and flexibility our clients have come to expect as they were instrumental in putting together the proposal with the appropriate event vendors on a condensed timeline. Their swift actions resulted in the award of a contract to NCC for AV and event support for the ceremonies at the Pentagon.
Ms. Preiss and Mr. Hetrick collaborated with Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, and the Army Multimedia and Visual Information Directorate (AMVID) to support the efforts of the four selected event vendors. Our staff made the necessary arrangements to ensure all personnel, equipment, and trucks were cleared by security so that the vendors were able to set up the stage, a large LED video screen, and all lighting and sound equipment in advance of the events. Our team members were at the venue site every day from September 8th – September 11th to provide coordination and assistance in the set up, execution, and breakdown.
At the Friday, September 9th ceremony, the Pentagon Community 10th Year 9/11 Observance provided WHS staff an opportunity to add a stitch to the National 9/11 Flag, while NCC staff monitored and assisted vendors on-site at the Pentagon Center Courtyard throughout the duration of the ceremony. This flag was salvaged from Ground Zero in New York and has since been pieced back together using remnants from flags destroyed by the devastating tornado that struck Greensburg, Kansas in 2007. NCC was pleased to assist WHS staff and event vendors during this special ceremony, and our team was prepared to oversee the second somber commemoration scheduled for September 11th.
The Official Pentagon Memorial 10 Year Commemoration consisted of a ceremony on September 11, 2011, and NCC staff was once again on hand to ensure the seamless execution of the observance. 1000 invited guests, mostly survivors and family members of the victims, gathered for a moment of silence and then heard remarks from special speakers including Vice-President Biden, and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. Ceremonial wreaths were laid out on the 184 individual benches of the Pentagon Memorial, paying tribute to the Pentagon employees and Flight 77 passengers who lost their lives ten years ago.
When the last notes of Taps faded, signaling an end to the ceremonies, our team mobilized to assist the vendors in disassembling the equipment and loading the trucks for departure.
It was an honor for our team members and our company to support DoD staff as they recognized the bravery of our nation’s fallen heroes and sacrifices of their loved ones.
