NCC Supports Pentagon’s Spirit of Service Ceremony
On Wednesday, May 9, NCC was privileged to support the Department of Defense’s “Spirit of Service” Ceremony at the Pentagon. NCC employees provided project management and vendor coordination for the event, which honored 31 military and civilian employees of the DoD who exemplify the core values of honor, integrity, and excellence expected of all public servants.
NCC Conference and Peer Review Manager Kim Preiss and AVTS Project Coordinator Kellan Hetrick drew upon their experience supporting Pentagon 9/11 observance ceremonies last year in order to take on the task of ensuring that all aspects of the event were flawlessly executed. They oversaw the vendors who transformed the Pentagon courtyard with a stage, tents, walkway, and lighting and audio equipment during the two-day set-up prior to the ceremony.
Events of this magnitude often require long days and creative problem solving, and this one was no different. When the backdrop, a 40-foot by 40-foot custom-made behemoth, missed its first flight across the country, Ms. Preiss had to make rapid arrangements for it to be specially couriered from Washington Dulles International Airport to the Pentagon in order to arrive on time.
Her efforts were successful and all was in place as Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter presented the awards to the deserving civil servants. Several hundred employees gathered for the ceremony and had the opportunity to enjoy a performance by Max Impact, the premier rock band of the United States Air Force, which played patriotic music as well as hits by Journey.
As the team members designated to managing all the event vendors, Ms. Preiss and Mr. Hetrick kept the event schedule moving forward from set-up to break-down, guided personnel through security check-points, monitored the work being done, and assisted with any issues, all to ensure that the Spirit of Service would be honored in both the production and proceedings of the ceremony.
NCC is pleased to announce we will provide similar project management and vendor coordination support for the upcoming DoD event, The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration National Announcement & Proclamation Ceremony, to be held on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012.
