Remembering Jonathan Ozimek

NCC is pleased to announce its support of the Jonathan Ozimek Scholarship Fund and CURE Childhood Cancer Association.  Jonathan is the late brother of NCC’s Multimedia Division Manager, Rebecca Ozimek.

The Jonathan Ozimek Scholarship at Penfield High School was created in memory of Jonathan Ozimek, known to his close friends as “Shnoz.”  Jon passed away in May of 2006 after courageously battling cancer for nearly nine years.  In his short yet fulfilling life, he faced the harshest of diagnoses and overcame adversity, while always remaining mentally strong and optimistic.  Despite his physical setbacks, Jon loved life and lived it to his fullest.  He was first diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, becoming a survivor at the age of 14.  Cancer then returned as Leukemia, as Jon relapsed on three separate occasions.  To those who knew him, it was no surprise that Jon aspired to become a doctor and help others in similar situations. In fact, he was accepted to medical school and made plans to attend the fall of 2006.  Jon was fully aware of the seriousness of his condition, but you would have never known—he always remained positive and happy—the life of the party.

His family and friends established an annual scholarship in his name, rewarding one ambitious high school senior pursuing a career in the medical field, to remember, honor, and carry out Jon’s dream.  2011 marks the 5th anniversary of the Jonathan Ozimek Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a Penfield High School senior pursuing a career in the medical field.

To continue the tradition of rewarding outstanding Penfield High School students, the Jonathan Ozimek Scholarship Fund has organized the 6th annual ShnozFest in Jon’s memory.  ShnozFest is a social gathering, involving music and friends—just as Jon enjoyed.  This year’s Shnozfest will take place on Saturday, July 23, in Penfield, NY.
