Unified Communications and AV Support for NIDDK

One in 11 Americans (nearly 30 million) has diabetes, and one in 10 American adults (over 20 million) has some level of chronic kidney diseases.  As the fifth largest institute within NIH, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has the significant and far reaching responsibility of performing critical lab research on these prevalent diseases, while also funding and coordinating research and training activities at colleges and universities, non-profit organizations, and businesses.

A crucial facet of NIDDK’s mission is to seek valuable advice from investigators, scientific organizations, patient advocates and the public while also communicating research to health care providers and the public for the benefit of patients and their families.  NCC was grateful to meet the challenge of improving NIDDK’s communication with its stakeholders by providing comprehensive Unified Communications and AudioVisual support, helping the organization transition from outdated AV/VTC systems to modern technology that streamlines the ability to share information, connect to remote users, and conduct meetings.

NCC’s redesign spanned seven offices and conference rooms within four separate buildings on the NIH campus, plus two remote sites nearby.  Before integrating the new technology, we reviewed the existing systems and user requirements before delivering a more user-friendly system to allow for centralized, remote support of the various offices and conference rooms.

Furthermore, we were privileged to incorporate Acano collaborative software into our upgrades for NIDDK.  Utilizing Acano, NIDDK will be able to unite previously incompatible audio, video, and web technologies in virtual meeting rooms while preserving common interfaces and customer experiences.  NIDDK staff and meeting participants will no longer be limited to using a single technology, as the platform is compatible with communication systems including Microsoft Lync, iPhone, Android, landline and VoIP telephone systems, and VTC systems like Polycom, LifeSize, Cisco, and Tandberg.

NCC has an extensive history and an intimate familiarity with conference room systems integration for NIH, including the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the National Library of Medicine (NLM), and the NIH Director’s Conference Room.

We are pleased to make communication and collaboration happen® for NIDDK, as the organization utilizes state-of-the-art, easy-to-use technology, featuring the Acano platform, to conduct productive and seamless meetings with the goal to improve treatments and clinical trials.
