Celebrate Thanksgiving with the Arlington Turkey Trot and AFAC Food Drive
On Thanksgiving Day, NCC encourages local residents to take part in the 8th Annual Arlington Turkey Trot. Although all 3,100 racing spots for this year’s event have been gobbled up, it’s not too late to make plans to attend the event or make a donation, as all proceeds from the event support local Arlington charities including NCC’s non-profit partner, the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC).
The Arlington Turkey Trot is a 5K fun run/walk. The starting line is at the corner of Pershing Drive and North Highland Street, and the course works its way through the Lyon Park and Ashton Heights neighborhoods. The race begins at 8:00 a.m. sharp.
Monetary donations can be made here. Additionally, canned/dry food, baby products, and gift card donations will be accepted the morning of the race from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at Christ Church of Arlington at 3020 North Pershing Drive.
Furthermore, this Thanksgiving, we ask you to consider donating to AFAC’s annual “Put the Giving in Thanksgiving” food drive by visiting the “Holiday Virtual Food Drive” page at AFAC’s website, where you can select from a wide variety of Thanksgiving-related food items to donate to local families in need.
NCC has been privileged to support AFAC since April 2012. For over 25 years AFAC has served Arlington by offering supplemental groceries to more than 1,500 families in need each week. The organization uses the Choice Model, which gives families the opportunity to choose from a range of meats, breads, canned goods, and other staple items rather than being given a pre-packaged bag of groceries.
We at NCC wish you and your loved ones a happy Thanksgiving, and ask you to consider making donations or contributions to charitable organizations like AFAC, to create a better experience for Arlington-area families this holiday season.
