Event Support for 1st Library of Congress NDIIPP/NDSA Meeting
As part of a five year contract with the Library of Congress (the Library), NCC provides event planning and travel support services to several of the Library‘s departments, including the congressionally-directed National Digital Information Infrastructure Preservation Program (NDIIPP). June 2011 marked the one-year anniversary of the creation of the National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA), an NDIIPP branch that establishes partnerships between institutions and organizations interested in long-term preservation and accessibility. With over 147 million items and counting in the Library’s collections, it has never been more important to find ways to preserve content electronically.
Last month NDSA hosted the first collaborative partners meeting in Washington, D.C. During this three day event, industry leaders in digital archiving presented their thoughts and advice while approximately 200 attendees engaged in workshops and panel discussions.
NCC’s Conference and Peer Review Division was privileged to play a key role in the successful planning and on-site execution of the first joint NDIIPP and NDSA meeting. In the months prior to the event, NCC contracted with the selected venue to secure meeting and lodging space and arranged multiple travel itineraries for key presenters and attendees. Days before NDSA members arrived, a member of the NCC Conference Team met with venue personnel to perform a site inspection of the meeting. Staff from the Library was available to review the agenda, discuss final details of the meeting, and finalize the requirements for the videographer taping the first day of the meeting.
Our Conference Planner provided on-site support for the three-day meeting, registering attendees, answering questions, coordinating with venue staff, and assisting the Library’s event planner.
The meeting was hailed as a success by the Library’s staff members and meeting attendees, who were enthusiastic about taking the first steps toward meeting Congress’ charge to NDSA to build a national collaborative approach to sustaining digital content. NCC looks forward to future opportunities to assist the efforts of our nation’s leaders in preserving past records in order to create a sustainable future.
