NCC Donates to AFAC at Shirlington’s “Light up the Village”
On Tuesday, December 3, two NCC associates took part in Shirlington’s Annual Light up the Village event. That evening, a Christmas tree was lit in the center of Shirlington Village, adding to the festive setting in the Village, which is home to several new shops and restaurants.
The Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), NCC’s longtime non-profit partner, was on hand to collect both food and monetary donations to help feed Arlington families in need during the holiday season. Because they donated cans of food, our two NCC attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a free carriage ride around Shirlington Village.
AFAC offers supplemental groceries to over 1,500 Arlington families in need each week. By utilizing the Choice Model, AFAC provides families the opportunity to choose from an assortment of meats, breads, canned goods, beverages, and other staple items rather than being given a pre-packed bag of groceries.
NCC has been privileged to support AFAC for more than a year and a half. In October, we held an employee volunteer event at AFAC’s food warehouse, and we ‘ve participated in several other events with the organization including a previous event in Shirlington where we served as AFAC ambassadors at the Shirlington Village Wine and Jazz Festival in 2012.
We were pleased to do our part in creating a better holiday experience for local families in need, and we look forward to continuing our important association with this generous organization.
