NCC Scholarship Recipient Begins Her Journey
In early June, for the third consecutive year, NCC was honored to present a scholarship to a deserving Asian American high school student at CelebrAsian, the United States Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce’s (USPAACC) annual procurement conference. Our Vice President of Operations Lorene Eberhardt had the privilege of personally presenting our recipient with her award at the event, which was held in Bethesda, MD.
Nearly three months after CelebrAsian, we were glad to hear from our recipient about her upcoming academic and career plans. This month, thanks to her dedication and hard work, along with the assistance of the National Capitol Contracting Scholarship, she began attending college in Colorado where she plans to be an Organismal Biology & Ecology major. She hopes to be accepted into a pre-med summer program next year, and in subsequent years she anticipates doing internships or research activities. After she completes school, her goal is to become a dermatologist, specializing in adolescent dermatology. As a little girl living homeless in San Diego these dreams may have seemed lofty at one time, but our recipient now begins what should be a gratifying path to her dream career.
USPAACC, which recently celebrated its 30th birthday, is the United States’ largest non-profit, non-partisan organization representing Asian American-related groups in business, education, science, the arts, sports, and public and community services. Each year the organization awards approximately 15 scholarships to high school seniors, and we have been proud to sponsor one of those scholarships for the last three years. We are pleased that USPAACC has again asked us to sponsor a college scholarship for CelebrAsian 2016, enabling us to deliver a GOOD future to another talented student.
We wish the 2015 National Capitol Contracting Scholarship recipient the best of luck in college and beyond, and we look forward to hearing more about her journey.
